This commandment is also found in Exodus 20:13

This is better translated into “murder”. Not “kill”.

A lot of modern translations translate the word that way.

Murder is defined as: The killing of another person without justification or excuse, especially the crime of killing a person with malice aforethought or with recklessness manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.

We know that the Bible supports the idea of self-defense.
For example in Exodus 22:2-3.

So the Bible supports protecting your own life and your family.
